About this Route

This route is one of the world's highest passenger railways, and according to many, the most beautiful. PeruRail is proud to unveil it - smoking volcanoes, deep canyons, mountain plains, steaming springs. 

All this can now be enjoyed and is available for groups of 40 passengers minimum or private charters.

Arequipa, known locally as the White City, stands at the foot of El Misti, the majestic, snowcapped volcano.  Its fine Spanish buildings are made from sillar, a pearly white volcanic material.  It is a fascinating place to explore.  At the Monasterio de Santa Catalina you can lose yourself, literally, among the intricate passageways and fascinating architecture.
